Barranquilla, Colombia – The Canadian U17 Junior Women's National Team kept their winning streak alive with an 18-0 win over the Dominican Republic in four innings on Monday. The red and white took control of the game with five runs in the second inning and added 11 in the fourth to put the game completely out of reach.

In the top of the first, Emma Dorval (Surrey, B.C.) led off with a double and opened the scoring after a pair of wild pitches. The following inning, Madelyn McKinnon (Surrey, B.C.) and Annabelle Guay (Terrebonne, Que.) both drew walks before Amy Hughes (Brampton, Ont.) singled to left to score McKinnon. After an error loaded the bases, Guay scored on an infield single by Erin Murphy (Surrey, B.C.) and a pair of walks with the bases loaded added two more runs. A sacrifice fly by Olivia Goderis (Swan Lake, Man.) scored another run as Canada took a 6-0 lead.

The Dominican Republic worked a pair of walks in the bottom of the second but Canadian pitcher Rawnie Weststrate (North Delta, B.C.) left them both stranded by inducing a fielder’s choice and striking out two batters. Guay led off the third with a double to left, advanced to third by tagging up on a fly ball to right field and scored on a ground out by Dorval to make the score 7-0.

Canada loaded the bases on two walks and an infield single by Abbey Tolmie (Clarkston, Mich.) to start the fourth before a walk and a sacrifice fly pushed two runners to the plate. Hughes hit a two-run double to left and Dorval followed with a two-run homerun over the left field fence to increase Canada's lead to 13-0. A pair of errors on ground balls to third led to two more Canadian runs, with three more scoring on a single by McKinnon, a bases loaded walk and an illegal pitch to complete the scoring. Samantha Ryan (Monroe, N.Y.) came in relief in the bottom of the fourth and allowed a tough luck single on a line drive to the third baseman, but she got the next batter to fly out and struck out the following one. A pickoff attempt at first went into right field, but the runner was thrown out trying to advance to second on the play to end the game.

Box Score: Canada 18 vs. Dominican Republic 0

Weststrate pitched three hitless innings for Canada, walking two batters and striking out five. Dorval had another big game at the plate with a homerun, a double and three runs batted in, while Hughes drove in four runs with a double and a single. Guay contributed a double and an RBI, Murphy singled twice and drove in one, and McKinnon had a single and produced two runs. Deanna Grahek (Georgetown, Ont.) and Tolmie each chipped in with a single.

The win improved Canada’s record to 3-0 and they will play their final preliminary round game against the host team from Colombia (2-1) at 7:00pm Colombia time (8:00pm EDT) on Tuesday. Live streaming is available on the Game Time streaming platform and the WBSC YouTube page.
